WHAT YOU CAN LEARN FROM THE REPORT CARD ABOUT SCHOOL-BY-SCHOOL SPENDING

Visit your school’s report card and go to the Finance tab under “Other Indicators.” Under “Per-Pupil Expenditures” click “More” to view school spending as well as district and state averages.

Select a district on the Dashboard of Per Pupil Expenditures, then scroll to the second page to view spending for each school in the district. Or visit the Data Downloads & Requests page and find the 2019-20 Finance Report under “Additional Data” to view spending by district for every school in the state.

Tennessee has an online option to directly compare spending and demographics within a district. Visit the Dashboard of Per Pupil Expenditures and scroll to the third tab to view comparison schools.

I know which school(s) I want to compare.
Under “Additional Data,” download the 2019-20 Finance data file from the Data Downloads & Requests page to view spending for every school in the state.

I do not know which schools I want to compare.
Download the 2020 School-Level Profile Data File from the Data Downloads & Requests page to identify demographically similar schools. Then, download the 2019-20 Finance data file from the same webpage to view spending for comparison schools.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, limited outcomes data was collected for school year 2019-20. Visit each school’s report card to gather comparison details on spending, demographics, and any available outcomes data.

Edunomics Lab developed interactive data displays to explore resource equity, how dollars are allocated to schools, and which schools are most able to leverage their money to maximize student outcomes. Explore the analyses here.
