The education job market is about to do a U-turn, with the hiring spree of the last few years set to stall out before coming to a screeching halt at the start of the 2024 school year.

What’s behind the flip? Federal pandemic relief funds fueled a hiring bonanza. During the same period, districts have been losing students. With one-time funds set to disappear by fall 2024, the staffing-enrollment mismatch spells financial trouble for districts, and a new reality for those seeking jobs in schools.
